Refuge Planning

What Are We Doing?

Togiak National Wildlife Refuge is revising and combining its Comprehensive Conservation and Public Use plans into one document. This updated plan will guide management of the Togiak Refuge for the next 15 years. This plan will help us keep the Togiak Refuge the special place it is today.

Who's Involved?

In order for us to have a really useful plan, it's important for everyone who cares about Togiak Refuge to be involved. To help make that happen, we have asked the local tribes and the State of Alaska to join our planning team for some hard, but rewarding work. We also depend on guides, outfitters, recreation visitors, subsistence users, and others who care about the refuge to help us by sharing their knowledge, concerns, and ideas.

What's Happening Now?

Information has been sent to everyone on our mailing list and a series of public planning meetings have been held to gather input. Many people have responded, and we have considered their comments carefully. A range of alternatives d were released in a draft plan in October 2007, and was followed by a three month public comment period.
