Common Murres. USFWS.Togiak National Wildlife Refuge conserves habitat for at least 214 staging, migrating, or breeding bird species. Bird species groups include landbirds, shorebirds, seabirds (including common murres, shown at left), raptors, and waterfowl. Birds from the North American Pacific Flyway and several Asiatic routes funnel through the area. Because the status and abundance of many of the bird species in this area is poorly known, the Togiak Refuge has been conducting numerous bird monitoring programs. The Togiak Refuge works cooperatively with other agencies on survey techniques and sharing of data.
